Industrial Design
This is the design process behind products intended for mass-production using machine technology. It is the creative act of determining the form and all the features of an item before it goes into production.
“Form follows function—that has been misunderstood. Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.” – Frank Lloyd Wright
The aim of Industrial Design is to combine artistic creativity with the possibilities offered by industrial technology to seamlessly merge the aesthetics of an object with its technical characteristics and functional purpose.
The perception of design and its evolution has been influenced by the experience of 20th Century masters in industrial design, such as the Castiglioni brothers, Vico Magistretti and Charles and Ray Eames to name but a few. Many of the most famous objects designed by these authors have shaped not only design but also the culture of living and the very idea of modernity itself throughout the world.
